Know Your Tow Rating
Check your vehicle's owner manual for the maximum tow capacity. Never exceed this number — it's the single most important factor in safe towing.
Understand GVWR vs Dry Weight
Dry weight is the RV empty. GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) includes passengers, cargo, and fluids. Always plan for GVWR, not dry weight.
Tongue Weight Matters
Tongue weight should be 10–15% of the total trailer weight. Too little causes trailer sway; too much overloads your rear axle.
Don't Forget Cargo Weight
Your gear, food, water, and passengers all count. A typical family trip can add 1,000–2,000 lbs to your setup.
Invest in a Weight Distribution Hitch
For trailers over 5,000 lbs, a weight distribution hitch levels the load between your tow vehicle and trailer axles for safer handling.
Practice Before You Go
